Tomtom 720T charging problem

I recently bought a tomtom 720T satnav. It works fine, apart from the charge not lasting. I put the device on charge over night (which should be plenty of time) but when I go out the charge only lasts approx one hour. This is getting very frustrating, as I have to plug it in to the cigarette lighter to keep it going. Is this is a normal problem, or am I doing something wrong??

I have the same problem with my Tom Tom (altho different model) - I posted a question on here somewhere and someone advised that you set the sat nav to switch off the screen between changes which apparently saves a lot of battery life. Not tried it yet myself but worth a go.

Using bluetooth and FM transmitter can drain the battery realy quickly as can having the brightness up high all the time. although with everything on I still get around 3 hours from my TOMTOM 720.

so this is normal? I had an older model tomtom and had about 4 hours charge. I gave it to my son, now I wish I could have it back - if it ain't broke don't fix it.
