    >>Remember a landline on BT or TalkTalk costs £10.50>>

That's the line rental cost per month.

For just another £9.99 with TalkTalk on its International3 AnyTime package (admittedly no TV) you get free broadband (usually "up to 8MB") and free AnyTime phone calls in the UK and to 36 international countries.

    Incredible value for only £20.50.
  • Seriously, even if they were giving Virgin Media packages away, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. Not even if it was your bargepole. And they paid me.
A friend of mine worked for an international market research company, the customer feedback for Virgin Media was by far the worst they'd ever encountered, customers so far past breaking point their responses were often really witty.
Also Virgin Media are leading the anti-customer pro-big business lobby in threatening their customers if they suspect they're downloading anything they think they shouldn't be (like music and films).

They're suspected of throttling bandwidth and are very anti-iPlayer, not good news if you want to do anything but send emails!
And now they;ve lost customer banking details!

    Anyway, just my opinion

I inherited VM when I moved last year.

After four months of appalling service (no broadband for most of it, unwatchable TV) I gave them final notice to repair and told them that failure would lead to me recovering all monies I'd paid to them.

They did nothing, I recovered the cash (using DD guarantee). No response from them. Got Sky installed (fine, thank you for asking!)

Two months later, they sent the bailiffs in! Bailiffs appraised of situation & backed off hurriedly. VM eventually said they would consider that I owed them nothing.

Think very carefully before using this company...

Reading the posts above I am with Virgin on the 20mb/£36 a month service atm which will soon be upgraded to 50mb. Well if you find that you are being "shaped" (their word) or RESTRICTED (my word) at certain times on the 20mb service this will get WORSE on the 50mb service and your downloads will be RESTRICTED to 500kb for several hours a day even faster because you can download more in less time you will reach their "shaping" threshold even quicker!
Remember, this is supposed to be a "Unlimited" service!
So, is it worth it? I reckon no, as soon as they upgrade the medium service to 10mb I'm going to that if I have been "upgraded" to the 50mb service.

And no, I don't download hundreds of movies or films, just stream TV (iplayer) and do alot of online gaming.

    Hi all,

Has anyone taken out the £9 broadband offer only and successfully got their £100 cashback tracked?
Just wonderring if this is classed as a package/bundle or if you need to get their TV and or Phonline.
If you can get it with the £9 broadband then its not a bad deal at all......after installation its (9*12) + £30 - £100 = £38 for the years broadband.

    Hoping this will work.

Apparently the word is that they are only upgrading the 4mb to 10mb and not upgrading the 20mb. The 50mb will be a completely new level that you have to pay more for. Search the web discussions for info. Nobody really knows, but that's the current thinking.

On demand is £5 extra unless your on XL tv i think.

That's incorrect. On-demand is free on all packages, TV Choice is extra on M and L packages. Even if u just have the free stuff there's still loads more content than VOD from Sky or BT Vision.

I never found there were many more channels actually worth watching on Virgin or Sky! Freeview does me fine and roll on Freesat

I think I have a great deal with Virgin with a lot of sweat and negotiation. I have been a customer for years and when I recommended a friend to join he got a great 'new customer' deal which was the same package as mine only half the price. (I was paying around £70 a month). I phoned and gave off and threatened to leave, but I realised they would do a better deal with a bit of negotiation, I perservered and now have the following deal, which I don't think can be beaten.V+ Box with XL package (records, pauses live TV, HD content, On demand etc)Second normal box in another room, again with XL channels.10 mbit BroadbandHome telephone with free local and national calls anytime. All for £33 !!!!!!!! a month. The moral of the story is to get on the phone and bargain them down. Good luck!!

Hi There, That's a cracking deal...how did you negotiate such a deal?
Curently I've got Talk unlimited, 10mb BB and Large Pack T.V for approx £43. I called and the best they can offer is upgrading to XL for approx £41 a month.
I tried to get the £33 a month deal but the guy was like my hands are tried.
Any advice on how to bring them down?
