Thanks for the explanation. My guess is that even after she can be legally left alone, you might want to be there for her?
Please discuss all your options with one of the people below, including the possibility of bankruptcy. That would clear all your debts including the council tax.
You would still be able to rent and you would have another £100 per month to start with. Theoretically it would clear the utility debts but I would recommend that you paid them off if you want to keep the same supplier or have to keep them because of your rental agreement.

There may also be a local debt councillor in your area, such as Christians Against Poverty
Also go over to the BK forum, just look up to find the tab, and talk to the lovely folk on there about the realities of BK.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
OH debt is 26,000 aprox
OH? Is this short for Other Half? If it is, then why are you having to pay someone else's debts?
p.s. if you go BK you will still be allowed to keep your car if it's needed to get to/from work, etc. Even if you can't afford to move immediately, the fact that you don't have to pay £105 a month towards your debts anymore will help to improve your life. Once you're discharged you can use the money to save towards a deposit.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Unfortunatly the place i live in is not a very desirable town.
All boarded up shops, yobs, ghost town.
Ive been on exchange list and sites for 18 months.
No one wants first floor flats, and def not in this town!!!
And just cant get the 1000 i would need fro deposit ect
ive asked council if they would help out with deposit
cus i would be giving a council place up, they said no, cus i would be making
myself homelesss because private is not secure,
which is far comment0 -

Thanks for your replies.
Rent private as a single mum
They dont like single mums!!!
I have tried, min rent here is 500 for 2 bed.
Plus I dont have the 1000 upfront for rent and deposit.
I cant work full time because my daughter is 13.
cant leave her home alone and have no family or friends to help.
Shes had personal problems too, councilling ect
But thats another story.
So cannot leave her alone.
OH debt is 26,000 aprox
 Hey again sweetie,
I take your point about the deposit - that would be pretty hard to scrape up, but around here where I live loads of the single mums rent privately - all my friends do.
It's partly because thanks to Mrs Thatcher there are no council houses left, and not many housing association ones either so they all get housing benefit to help with their private rent. It's not as secure as council housing or housing association, but sometimes it's the best choice for other reasons.
I just thought that if a private rent was about the same as your current £240 rent plus the £312 your cars costs you a month then it might be worth thinking about getting rid of your car, and renting privately near work, school and your daughters friends - you might even be better off if you could get a 2 bed for £500 as £240 + £312 is £552.
It might be worth talking to Shelter to see if they can help:

I know you're at the point right now where it all seems impossible, but there are pros and cons to things changing, and there are pros and cons to things staying as they are, and hopefully posting on here for a little while will give you the boost you need to start investigating your options.
I've really got to go now, but I'll check back in later and see how you're doing.

Hi Neff
It obviously feels doom and gloom at the moment but if your daughter is 13 then you are surely on the home strech now in terms of having to be 'around' after school for her. If you can't leave fher a the moment due to problems what age do you forsee letting her be home alone until you get home from work?
Also please stay around these boards as others have suggested as you will get so much help.
Try the oldstyle board for help with a small realistic grocery budget, ask daughter to help you with bulk cooking etc as she is now old enough and it will get her out of her room and being involved with the running of the home.
Ask on the bankruptcy board if this is an option for you.
Stay on here for help with your budget. Keep a spending diary to find out how much you are spending on everything!!
Go through Quidco for any insurances, anything you buy on line and sign up for a 'free' offers on there too. There is a Quidco thread somewhere someone will point you in the right direction.
Do you get help with transport costs for school travel as you live so far away?
Good luck with everything, with hard work you can turn this around and most of the people on this board are example of this as some of them have come through so much.

Definitely speak to CCCS, CAB or national debtline first!
If they suggest bankruptcy which looking at your situation they could well do then pop over to the bankruptcy sub-board and we'll help you every step of the way:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0
