I am in Southampton if that helps?
Thanks

Ive bought some from a timber merchant but have found that as NON TRADE once the VAT is added the prices are close to Wickes price (per metre). I did notice there was a slight variation in the quality.
So if its just a room or so then it doesnt change too much,
also bear in mind some timber merchants sell the skirting cheaper in 4metre lengths etc and charge more for cut timber and thus working out roughly same price as SHEDS. Also the transport of 4m-ish timber needs vans etc. HOPE THAT HELPS.0 -
Last summer (wow - almost a year ago!) I replaced all the skirting boards throughout my parents house. I wanted a modern look so wanted a straight edge rather than the trad bull nose finish. I went to Howarths timber, ordered the right depth and thickness of wood and they delivered it and it was much cheaper than B&Q/Wickes and the quality was very good too. I then just added one coat of Zinsser BIN primer, dry in 45 minutes and then the topcoat. They have a 4 bed house with large rooms by modern standards and I think all the timber was £ 150 all in!0

Thanks for the info guys - I have just mailed Howarth to see if they will deliver as far as Southampton !
Thanks Again0 -
I buy all my timber from Howarth Timber. The quality is far better than the big sheds and the lengths available are much more in keeping with doing the job properly i.e. no joins in walls.Basically you can by any length from 1.2 right up to 5.4 mts in 0.3(1ft) increments.Expect to pay about £2.00 a metre for softwood 7" skirting.0

I have an account at a local branch but i work as a joiner so use them all the time.It doesn't have to be Howarths.Any local timber or builders merchant will do.0

Totton Timber used to be excellent and very keenly priced when I lived down there.
