Sky + wont record!!

Hi can anyone help?
My Sky+ wont record anymore or pause live tv or forward / rewind it says system fault call this number, which I did and after all checks and restarts etc they reckon its a £65 call out which I obviously don't want to do. I wonder if it would be cheaper / easier to change the hard drive on it myself? and if so can anyone recomend what to do.

    if you are out of the 12 month contract period, phone them up and ask to be put through to cancellations, when you speak to them and they ask you why you want to cancel, explain to them that you cannot use your sky+ box, and dont see why you should pay a £65 call out fee, i think you will find that the £65 fee will soon dissappear, hth Dave

    Have you tried doing a full reset on the box?

    There is the "hidden" menu that will reset the box to Factory default and wipe the drive.

    Press [FONT=Verdana, Arial]'Services' '4' '0' '1' 'Select' [/FONT]then press option[FONT=Verdana, Arial] '8'
    [/FONT]
    This will do a full reset. Let it whir away for a while then try and record something[FONT=Verdana, Arial].

    This happened to us, and when we were told there would be a callout fee, we said we would just cancel the Sky then. A new Sky + box was installed a few days later free of charge. ;)
