Investment in Wine

Not sure if this is the right place, however..
On television and papers i hear about vintage wine e.t.c gaining value. Instead of investing in a bank account i thought about buying a bottle of wine each month?
Then 30-40 years on hopefully the value may have increased.
I understand that i can't go out and buy a bottle of tesco own. But i wanted to know if anyone knew which wines gather value and where to find them.
Many thanks

If you can afford them, these are the real money makers..

Also.-
Older Burgundy, Montrachet etc
Some US Cabs
Vintage Port (I have some of this but tend to drink it)
My advice? research, know what you are doing. Understand about buying EP.
Good luck.Father, Husband, Jogger, Painter. Mostly at the same time, except the jogging and painting bit, it didnt work out.0 -
Good idea. If wine looses it's value you can drown your sorrows so you win either way!
Only kidding
A good start might be to see if your area has a local wine club, that would be a quick way of meeting a few experts/people with large collections who might be able to point you in the right direction.0 -
I'm sure someone will soon tell you exactly which one's to go for, I just heard it through the grapevine

Hi, realtime,
I wouldn't see an " alternative " investment like wine as a substitute for saving and investing in the traditional way but I think that it could make a fun hobby.
Decanter magazine has a pretty comprehensive section on wine investment, here.I understand that i can't go out and buy a bottle of tesco own. But i wanted to know if anyone knew which wines gather value and where to find them.

Wine collecting seems like a great hobby with the spin-off of possibly monetary gain. However, digging a new cellar could be a real killer!;)In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0

It can be a lucrative Investment
I bought a case of Chateaux Petrus 1976 in 1982 for less than £ 300.00
The good news is that a single bottle of the stuff retails for at least £ 300.00 nowadays..........:T
The bad news is I don't have any of it left

I work in this area, try these companies.. They are great with advice. Laithwaites Fine Wines Service, Berry Brothers & Bibendum Wines
You've missed cheap prices on the Bordeaux 05, that's where the big ££s at but you may still be able to pick up something for a reasonable price as the market is busy at the moment.
Once you've found something, check out wine-searcher. com. It lists current prices.0 -
