Where to Invest

Hi

My parents have about 400k in savings and are now retiring - currently they live abroad but are relocating to the UK. They would need about £1800+ a month net of tax but they do not want to invest in an interest account - would rather invest in mutual funds etc.

In terms of access to the money - they don't mind putting it away for the first year atleast.

For that amount of money, your parents really need an IFA and perhaps that's something you could do for them before they return - i.e. do some research and find them a good one.

Investments into unit linked funds should be for terms in excess of 5 years. Most modern investments are open ended and money is available within 7-14 days but the intention should be to leave the money there.

If the intention is just one year then they should not use investments but stick to savings/deposit based products. However, they would need to be wary of potential tax issues.
