Student working part time - tax credit. Advise please.

Sorry if this question is asked before. I did search, but cannot find the answer.
Husband works full time. I am full time student and work part time (self employed). Got 2 kids. Just wanted to know whether for tax credit purposes my part time income is accountable or not? I read somewhere that student part time income is not taken into account for benefits purposes.
Also when I fill my tax return do I put my income from part time job. Do I need to fill a tax return form at all???:o
Tax, benefits and tax credits are massively complicated for me, hence the questions. Please help.
