Help- making novelty rubber gloves

This seems like a daft question, but here goes.

I am making a pair of novelty rubber gloves to go with the How clean is your house book for my friends birthday (long story but its a joke after her partner bought her a Dyson for her birthday pressie :rotfl: ).

I've seen these ones ebay, but refuse to pay in excess of £7 (which is what they go for at the end) when I'm artistic enough to make them myself for a fraction of the cost.

I have bought a pair of gloves and some cheap bracelets from Wilkinsons, but am now stumped on how to tart up the tops. I did buy a shocking pink body polisher (thing you use with shower gel to lather it up) and cut the elastic out and unravelled it. I don't know how to attach it to the top of the gloves, I did buy some superglue.

I've also got some gold ribbon that I rescued off a parcel and was going to put it around the top to hide any untidy edges.

Please help, I'm useless when it comes to sewing stuff!

    Hi,

Lovely idea, i think I may do some of these for my 'monica' sister ;)

I would just glue the frilly polisher on first, getting as neat a line to the top of the glove as you can,, then when its dry put a line of glue around the edge/meeting point of the glove and polisher,, gently put the ribbon on top, with the glue about in the middle to keep it tidy?

Hope that made sense? Can we see pics when they're done??

Glue the polisher to the outside of the glove :)

If you can find some evostick contact adhesive that might help. It dries reasonably soft and flexible so it's less likey to scratch or crack if your friend tries the gloves on :)

Thanks for the tips Ems*Honie and Squeaky, I'll let you know how I get on. I'll post a pic when they're done. It may be a bit fiddley as the material is a little bit waxy to touch and is very flimsy compared to the net used in the picture.

I also bought a rubber glove stand to hang them on for added comedy value.

this is a great idea as a present. I think I may try this as a novelty christmas present for friends - peronsonalising them.

Thanks for the idea - would love to see your finished result x

Maybe you could put a ring on one of the fingers,a plasticy type one with a big stone, like the ones you get in those 20p machines.Ive seen novelty gloves with fluffy fur around the cuff and a large jewel glued onto the wedding finger, these were around £10

Well I've done it. Not how I imagined they would be. Absolute nightmare getting the netting to stick. Ended up pulling the net taught weighed down between 2x full bottles of pop. Used Gorilla Glue, basically apply to wet surface and it then expands to 4 times it's size, so handy as expands into the net and dries. Only down side is that it dries like foam, so needs to be covered and the collars have all gone stiff.

The gold ribbon came in handy, they certainly look handmade!
