Securing hire car visa electron

Hi Guys
Thinking of going on a late deal to florida with a car/hotel package.Could i use a visa electron card at the airport pickup? A couple of people i have asked said a credit card is required for vehicle hire.

I don't have a credit card and was able to hire a car in Florida about 3 years ago no problem at all. If I remember rightly all they asked for was $100 in cash which was refunded when I returned the car. I was quite surprised at how happy they were to do this.
Maybe it'd be a good idea to email the hire company before going to clear it with them, just for peace of mind.
