Lloyds TSB Credit Card - Cheeky or what???

Hi guys

I'm a newbie but I have been lurking for a little bit and I thought I would tell you this.

My dad got a letter from his credit card company (I think its with Lloyds TSB) telling him that if he spent £400 on his card in the next 3 months he would get to stay a weekend in a hotel for free. Sounds nice eh?? :T

There is a catch however.....

If he doesn't spend £400 he WILL BE CHARGED £30 towards the cost of the promotion!!!!!! There is no getout clause either. Needless to say he is going into the bank today to cancel it.

Is this not just asking people to get into debt? Has anyone else had this letter. My parents are both fuming!

Surely this is wrong?

are you sure its not an 'opt in' promotion, where if you opt-in then fail to spend the required, then you will be charged?

(I think its with Lloyds TSB)
I can't find anything on their site about this (and a google search isn't turning up anything for any other providers.) Are you sure it's genuine?
Is this not just asking people to get into debt?
Only if it isn't paid off in a timely manner. (Assuming it is genuine of course.)

-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries
  • My parents think the letter seems genuine enough. It seems really cheeky though. I don't know how they think they will get away with it tbh.

The card is getting cancelled straight away as it is bang out of order.

    The promotion is OPT IN.

I have seen a similar letter - it is clear only if you read it very slowly.

If they don't want to participate they won't get charged £30 and they don't have to spend £400 on the card if they don't want to.
