Right, basically I travel back and forth between zones 1-4 every day so i use a travel card. Now I am just turning 18 so i am losing my half price discount. So I dont know what type of travel card to get :S.

The annual costs £1384.00
The monthly costs £132.90
The weekly costs £34.60

Now I am looking at getting either the monthly or annual ticket. But I dont know whether the annual is worth it due to me taking holidays during the year.

Can some one give me some advice on what one they think I should take. Probably a simple question but I figured I would ask seen as im a noob here :D

Thanks for any help :)

Are you still in education? If so, and you live in London, you should still get a discount.

No im not in education now. Full time work
  • you could ask your employer if they take part in the annual season ticket scheme (I am assuming this works for travel cards)

Your employer lends you the money for the annual season ticket, and you pay it back to them each month, but you pay it back out of your gross salary, so you save the tax on it. This would normally then work out cheaper, even if you do take holidays.

Strick, the annual one is basically 52 weeks worth of travel for the price of 40, so unless you're taking 12 weeks' vacation this is always the best option.

What are your home and work stations please?

My home station varies between woodford and highams park. My work station varies between Liverpool Street (London) and Bank.

Thanks for the figures, I couldnt seem to work that out properly :)

The cost of a season ticket from Highams Park to Liverpool Street (rail only... except when theres problems on the line, in which case there are usually easements allowing you to use London Underground and London Buses) are:

    annual £936.00
    monthly £89.90
    weekly £23.40

Is worth considering I would suggest. Obviously this includes any leisure/weekend travel you may do as far as Liverpool Street, but if you wanted to go further on the tube or London Buses you would need to pay as you go. To buy this ticket, you need to take a passport-size photo to any ticket office (Highams Park ticket office appears to be open 06:00 to 22:00 M-Sat).

Hey all I know it has been a time since I last posted on this thread and this is not me bumping it. But in the end I decided to go with the Yearly travel card with TFL due to the fact that looking at my other usage of public transport out of office hours the amount of money I saved was more than if I just bought the Rail travel card.

Thanks all for your postings :-)
