Can someone help please. had a bit of a accident with my laptop and the cat earlier today and ive not been able to start windows since.
It says windows has detected a error and has shut down to prevent damage
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
then goes on to say to make sure any new hardwear or software is properly installed, which ive not added any so it cant be that. it then says disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing and something to do with starting in safe mode.
I can get to the bios setting thing but i dont have a clue what to do there. i tried changing it to boot from cdrom but the xp home edtion disk doesnt seem to be doing anything at all
Ive tried all the toher option, start in safe mood, start from the last startup etc but nothing seems to work
Im not sure if my home edtion disk is scratched too and i dont have a restore disk

That's not a nice situation to be in. I would suggest that it's a failure in some sector on the hard disk, did you drop the computer? If you dropped it, especially if it was switched on, the hard disk may have been scratched by the arm.
You need to boot into something other than the hard drive (DOS). You've done the right thing by setting the machine to boot from CD-ROM, is the CD-ROM drive attempting to read the CD or is it merely carrying on to boot normally? I guess it may be damaged and not being detected as a bootable CD, I have noticed some google posts saying that users have trouble booting from XP home CDs so it may be worth borrowing a friend's CD (not to install). If you have a floppy disk drive you can boot from a recovery disk.
Once you've managed to get a boot prompt (from a floppy) or the windows CD booted you should run Check Disk and set it to fix bad sectors (google is your friend).0 -
The kitten just jumped from my knee onto the keypad then straight off down to the floor..I thought at first the cat had just pulled out the adapter because the battery doesnt charge so ive to keep it plugged in all the time.
Nothings happening at all with the cd rom now. the first attempt seemed to load but then a message came up sayng failed and since then its just gone straight to a black screen with the safe mode, safe mode with networking. safe mode command prompt, last known configuration and start windows normally options.
I had a google earlier but i didnt have a clue what anyone was on about
would it be worth borrowing a sart up disk or buying one off ebay and trying that?
i dont own any floppy disks either to try it that way.0 -
Copied from HERE
If the second parameter (0xbbbbbbbb) of the Stop error is 0xC0000032, the file system is damaged.
If this is the case, restart the computer to the Recovery Console, and then use the chkdsk /r command to repair the volume. After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage.
To do this, follow these steps: 1.Start your computer by using the Windows startup disks, or with the Windows installation disk if your computer can start from the CD drive.2.When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option.3.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.4.Type the administrator password when you are prompted to do this.
Note If no administrator password exists, press ENTER.5.At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER.6.At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer. If this procedure does not work, repeat it and use the fixboot command in step 5 instead of the chkdsk /r command.
Ohh and as my end note try to keep kitty and cat hair from the leads/laptop/cooling fans. Operate laptop from a hard surface not on carpets or knees/clothing as this causes heat to build up.0 -
Ive managed to get hold of a recovery disk, pc beginner 2006, but i dont have a clue how to use it. Ive put it in the laptop and the menu came up but i dont have a clue where to go from there. I tried windows recovery option then boot windows nt/2000/xp but then it asks me to select the operating system to start and it gives a list, NT first harddisk, NT second harddisk etc and from there i dont have a clue where to go.
Anyone got any ideas please
I did give the first option a go but i got the message -
windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows root>\system32\ha.dll. please install a copy of the above file0
