cheapest flight from heathrow to cape town ?

Hi all,

I have been looking at flights to cape town, but finding them very expensive and/or not a preferred airline.
I also found ones which seem reasonable, but dont fly direct.

My dates that I am looking to go

Depart: beginning of July, also Im flexible with those dates.

Return: end of august/beginning of September, flexible dates.

I would prefer direct, this is because I apparently would need to purchase a visa to land in another country first, ie France or Germany. think this costs around £40.

If I fly to another country first, cheapest I've found is about 650, and if its direct, then cheapest I've found is about 850.

If anyone could try and find the cheapest deal, that would be great.

Thanks
nizmotine

    Welcome to MSE nizmotine ...

Have a look at www.kayak.co.uk for an idea of your different flight options.

Visa: you will generally find that you can change 'planes in Europe so long as you do not leave the airport, and so long as you will be staying there for less than 24 hours. (Search websites for the country's embassy, and look for the key phrase "airside transfer", which is what you would be doing.)

Most flights to South Africa land at JNB, about a thousand miles from Cape Town. You could arrive there, and then continue your journey by domestic flight, train, or bus. The trains have sleepers and restaurants and go across the deserts of the interior -- a good way to unwind at the beginning and end of your holiday. And JNB is convenient for the Kruger national park and other attractions.

I should have said, yes I'm in the UK.

I would rather go to cape town, its just me travelling by myself, and really just want my journey to be as quick as possible.

I will look into the visa stuff, thanks.

dmg, thanks for the kayak site, it looks good.

You should try www.dialaflight.com. I got £200 off each of my flights compared to others i was looking at. I found a flight on ba.com and it was £1140 - i called dial a flight and they got me a flight flying with British Airways (all the same as i was looking at) and it was £940.

I spoke to a really helpful guy, who went through everything for me. You can look on their website to get an idea of what they can offer but you have to call them to get a proper quote. I found a cheaper number then the one quoted on their website. Instead of an 0870 number i found a landline.

It's worth giving them a call to see what they can offer. I gave it as an idea to someone else on here and they ended up using them. They found they were the cheapest.

Let me know how you get on. xxx
