Gear selection problems, Peugeot 206
Hi All
I drove through a rather deep flood a few days ago and I'm having a couple of problems selecting 1st and 3rd gears on my Peugeot 206. Just wondering whether anyone had any ideas what the problem might be - It seems to have trouble engaging and has occasionally slipped out of gear. Car still drives OK, just problems with the gear selection. 2nd, 4th and 5th (and reverse) all engage with no problems.
I'm hoping it won't need a new gearbox , so wondered what else it could be (so that I can sleep tonight:o). Planning to get it booked into the garage first thing tomorrow, and I've done no more than 10 miles since then, so hopefully it won't be as expensive as all that....
Thanks a lot

Water shouldn't affect the gearbox in that manner, its more likely a problem with the linkage or gate.
Don't tell them about the flood or they may deem it as permission to invent things to replace.0 -
my girlfriend had similar problems with her 206,it went in to garage for some suspension work and it came back with the gear lever tight again,i never got round to investigating but i think the linkage or cables were tightened up,as it is only doing it in 1st and 3rd which will work off the same linkage it is likely to be the same problem,so im sure the garage could adjust the nescessary linkage and all will be well again.
let us know what the garage do for future reference....work permit granted!0 -
Thanks for your replies, and the advice not to mention the water! I don't think I would want them to strip the box down if it's just a loose linkage....I think I'll just say it started up suddenly without mentioning any potential cause!
I'll let you know how I get on.

Just a quick update...took it to the garage this morning and it looks like it was just a loose bolt on the linkage. They replaced it and it seems to be fine now. They did say that it might be a problem inside the gearbox because it still wasn't feeling quite right (to them...it seems fine to me!!), but to see how it goes. He did say, though that it might be one of those things that sorts itself.
After they'd finished, I mentioned the flood waters, but he was quite definite that there was no way any water could get in.
So, I've to see how it goes. And the best bit....they didn't charge me a penny!!!
Cheers
