Sony PS2 query

This is a query for the PS2 techie - My son's PS2 gaves usually start up once the disc is inserted.
Now when the disc is inserted the tv screen displays "Browser" and "System configuration" and the game won't start.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

We had this problem a few months back. I also found the page that TOG posted, but I thought it was a bit drastic opening up the machine.

Before I tried the method on the link, I used a CD lens cleaning disc (with small brushes on) in the PS2. This worked first time, and the machine has been fine ever since.

Its a laser problem not the disk, You can get them replaced cheap now, have a search with google. After time the laser break/stops working, had the same problem with my brothers PS2. If you cant find anyone then id suggest ringing sony up.

Before you start mucking around replacing the lens or opening the box (all very drastic measures). Try my suggestion of a lens cleaning disc, you put the disc in the PS2 and it runs and cleans the lens. This worked for us when we had exactly the same problem. You can pick up a cleaning disc for under £5.
