Hmmmm... let me know how it goes...
I always rinse mine... just to get rid of the bleachy smell iykwim... I normally rinse about 3 or 4 times...
Will be interested to see how it turns out, if not rinsed....0 -
I just want to add that Demijohns are not easily found. I walked for miles at 2 of the biggest boot sales in Essex today. I found 2 at the very end. I should have just gone to Wilkos as.....:D once you have factored in the petrol money and buying nearly £10.00's of tat for my little ones, I have not money saved at all
The DJ's were 3.00 for two. I now have sore feet and some more DJ's.
On a good note, my peach wine is bubbling away nicely now in a DJ.
I have bought some red grape juice from Lidls and I did buy a kit from Wilkos (Elderflower). So I am starting 2 new ones. We should have some lovely stuff for Christmas.0 -
well think my apple cider is not doing what its meant too... its stopped bubbling . i have added the other litre of apple juice and a campden tablet.
do i just leave it too it now? it smells pretty bad at the moment! think i have done something wrong,
does it need to be bubbling ? its in a warm place and was bubbling away nicely and now doing nothing .Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0 -
Did you sterilise all your equipment? Smelling bad can apparently be a sign that bacteria got in and have turned it sour. The DJ needs to be sterilised and no air must be able to get in.
My apple cider (that was meant to be wine) stopped pretty quickly too, but it smells just like strong cider.0 -
thanks 2 cats, i sterilised with boiling water . it smells really yeasty if that makes sense... i have only pulled the stopper thingie off twice once to smell it and once to add more juice and the campden tablet.
i am going to leave it for a wee while and see .... its really cloudy so hopefully the campden tablet will clear that .
i think i will jsut have to wait and see what it tastes like in the end .
how long after i have added the campden tablet should it start clearing?????
thank you xLife should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0 -
Can I just add that I have found a very helpful site. Not trying to detract from this forum, it's just that this forum is all about winemaking and they seem to know a bit
