Lidl do pear juice with pulp. I added 3 litres of pear juice and 1 litre of apple juice. I'm 5 days into brewing it and it looks like i'm going to be enjoying pear cider soon. If it's ok I might try using 3 litres and 1 litre of water as it is really thick stuff. I've added enough sugar to make it 8-10% so it should have a good kick.

I quite fancy trying a pear wine....
And I did see the pear juice in Lidl...
Might have to get some in and try that conconction :D

Loving this thread. Bringing back loads of memories. I used to help my Dad with his home brew, from kits to hedgerow beer/wine/cider etc we did them all. I inherited Dads kit and did do some brewing before the kids were born.

Your thread made me look longingly at the DJ's stacked up in my garage.

I always found the best "free fruit" wine was elderberry. started off in a 5 gallon bucket, elderberries/water/sugar/yeast. Allow to ferment for about 2 weeks in bucket, then strain and decant into DJ's to finish off for another week or 2. Leave to mature if you can for a month or 3 with these types of wine, but nice anyway.

Last lot I made was lethel imagine ribena on acid rofl mmmmmmmmmmmm.

BTW remember like homebaking each batch will be slightly different, but thats the fun of it.

OK I tried some of my brew again tonight and it's ok. I think once I accepted that I had cider I was alright. Then instead of tasting some out of a wine glass and thinking "this is really awful wine" I was tasting some out of a big glass and thinking "this is pretty darn awesome cider" LOL. So I've had a swig and I can live with it, but the chicken in cider sauce is still on.

After watching Hugh FW make elderflower champagne, we were going to buy the gear to make it. Then a friend bless popped round some DJ's and air lock thingys, tubing.

But the very loveliest thing is an electric blanket for a DJ. I am most impressed. It's fab.

Will let you know as I am off to collect elderflowers tomorrow.

I don't think you need demi johns to make elderflower champagne - elderflower wine yes - the usual version of elderflower champagne results in a very weak alcoholic extremely fizzy refreshing drink. NB use plastic bottles for safety.

This year we made elderflower cordial - easy peasy - and add fizzy water to it - safe AND delicious

    Hi
I found a recipe somewhere (I thoughtiot was this thread but can't find it now) for making wine using cranberry juice and grape juice. I can only seem to find cranberry juice drink which is mainly water. Can I use this or does any body know where I can get pure cranberry juice?

Hello home-brewsters! How are all these bubbling cauldrons?

My raisin wine is safely bottled and I now have a demijohn of strawberry wine beginning to froth away (no yeast used) with a giant pink balloon attached to the top of the bottle. I certainly wasn't binning the surplus strawberries left over from the fruit kebabs at a party! No siree! Just need to find a few bottles before this lot's ready for syphoning!

Well I went collecting elderflowers at the end of June. To be honest it's too late, they are all rather jaded and turning into something akin to berries by this point.

HOWEVER, Lidls were selling peaches cheaply today. So I am now the proud owner of a big bucket of peaches fermenting.

I got the recipe for Peach wine from the net, but didn't have everything.

I have put 10 peaches (cut & stoned then blended) into the bucket. To get the peaches to blend I used some hot tap water from the 7 pints needed to carry on with recipe and blitzed in my blender.

I then added a pack of sugar which is not quite but roughly 2lbs.

    A campden tablet.

    Some of that pectinol stuff

    Some yeast nutrient.

The recipe called for tannin & citric acid in powder form. I put a teabag in about a 1/4 mug of tea and left it for a while and then threw the tea in for the tannin. For the citric acid, I grated the skin of a lemon & roughly chopped a lemon up and chucked it in.

I got a 21 litre bucket from Wilkinsons for 3.00. To sterilise everything, I used Wilkinsons own version of Milton sterilising stuff.

Actually I would like to know if we can use this. Not sure.

This wine isn't going to be ready until around November to be honest though.

Yes you can use the own version sterilising solution.. I use Tesco's one, and have not had any problems... Just remember to rinse a few times.

I`ve been looking for cranberry too and could only find juice drink i`ve ended up buying a mixed ribena juice to go with the red grape:o i`ll be starting that one in about 3 weeks so that i can stagger when they are ready and not all done at once.
Fingers crossed as this is the first time i`ve attempted wine, good luck.
