New Carpet

Just got a bargain from carpet right. A carpet for my new baby's bedroom which cost me £21.46.

Problem is I asked the bloke there about underlay, & he quoted me £31!!!!

I need underlay as its going onto a floor which currently has hardwood flooring.

Where can I get cheap underlay from.

Also how do I work out the size of a room in square meter's???

Am i right in thinking it is 2.2 X 3.6 = 7.92 so my room is 7.9m2????

I think that your calculations for square metres is correct, but I'm a bit rusty so can't be 100% sure.

Apparently good quality underlay is worth paying for, though £31 does seem a bit excessive. See an older thread here

Your calculations are correct. However carpetrights underlay is HUGELY overpriced. You buy underlay depending on the weight of it bedroom standard is about 65 lbs, you can go up to 80lbs but any more will be a total waste of money .B+ q sell underlay, not sure price and a lot of local carpet fitters will also sell it.I would maybe try a small independant shop, especally as you will need less than a full bag so they night cut it for you to size ( 8m2) or yellow pages for carpet fitters supplies.DONT pay carpetrights prices- good prices for carpet but a rip off for sundaries.
  • Well my mate is a carpet fitter & he is gonna do it all for nothing, his pressie to the baby.

Fantastic a room carpeted for £21

    Cant be bad
  • the next time i lay a carpet i will get the mut nuts cloud 9 cumulus from here........http://www.completelyflooring.co.uk/
best price i could find, quite reasonable i thought, especially if you can collect. i reckon it would cost you approx £21+vat for that room, you may have to buy whole rolls though but any leftover can be saved for the next room. also try https://www.discounted-carpet-underlay.co.uk. of course these places have other underlays at cheaper prices. quite an eye opener!

  • Did you know you can buy brand new carpeting and underlay on the roll on Ebay! I was quite shocked actually when I found them, but then again it seems you can buy anything on there these days

I'm not sure how the prices compare with mainstream carpet shops, as I've not been in one for a while, but they didn't seem too bad to me and most of them deliver too!
