Is it true that MBNA are a sub-prime issuer.
I have been turned down by JJB and Aqua but accepted by Vanquis, Barclaycard and CapOne....would MBNA be any good.

No, they are not, they issue a std classic card but it is not aimed at the sub prime market, it has lower acceptance criteria than their main stream platinum range but that is all.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? That's 5 applications with MBNA being the 6th? Each application puts a search on your credit report so at some point you'll hit a brick wall on the application side.
