Cheapest Tow Bars, plus fitting etc?
I'm looking to get a towbar fitted (relative has got a trailer I can use), but have no idea where to look, or how much they cost.
Where's the cheapest place to get one? Can you DIY install? How much would fitting be? Do I have to cut my bumper?
Not sure whether to get someone local to supply and fit, or get one off ebay and try myself.
Thanks.

Depends on make and model of car, the towbar is usually easy enough to fit, most cars nowadays come with pre-drilled and threaded mounting points, it is the electrics that can be time consuming and you need to know what you are doing to connect them correctly.0

Thanks. It's a 2001 Seat Leon.
Any ideas what's a good price for one? They seem quite pricey.0 -
Ones on ebay need the bumper cutting apparently. Will that be the same for all of them for my car? Not sure I'm up to doing that.0

Cheap isn't necessarily good but we had one fitted to the Jeep and it was shade under £200 which I thought was OK. Ayrshire if that's any good to you PM me.0

In the past I have fitted several towbars myself but always bought quality ones i.e. Witter and fitted them to manufactures specification, it is not particularly difficult but if you are not sure whether you can do it look in Yellow Pages, phone around and ask whats needed and get some quotes, then decided if it is a DIY job or not.0

I had a quote last week for my 2006 Astra Sporthatch.
£350, fitted from a proper tow bar place.
This is a fixed, swan neck, dual electrics and official vauxhall wiring harness - all fitted.
Detachables are £500 all in.
Your car may also need official towing kit, the kit for mine plugs in to the cars ECU so it knows i am towing adjusting ABS and stability systems etc.
It feeds the electrics through properly as well.
A relay bypass could be done but for safety and the newness/warranty on the car its offical product for me.
No bumper cut for me but the brand new Jag they were fitting whilst I were there had needed a cut. UuurrrggghhhI beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Hi ixwood,
I've just had a tow bar fitted to my 2000 Seat Leon. Yes, they had to cut the bumper (I couldn't look - it was quite distressing!) I have a witter bar with twin electrics, they came to me to fit it & I paid just over £250 all inclusive - this was through the motorist discount centre. A very nice young man (!) came out to fit it - polite, courteous etc. Would recommend them.
