Rusty bike chain/gears

I've got a bike that has developed rust on the chain and gears. What is the easiest and most effective way of getting rid of it? I've heard WD40 might work. I don't really want to buy any expensive rust remover from Halfords unless it is the only way to get rid. Thanks.

Brush some parrafin on them, leave overnight, wipe off, then coat with a light oil to prevent it happening again.
  • spray wd40 on the chainwhilst turning the peddle backwards, cycle it some didstance then repeat again before putting it away. You should probably wonder why its getting rusty first
