Laptop wont load discs

I Bought my son a reconditioned laptop from currys and last night tried to load microsoft word on it, but its wont read/load the disc, we tried several discs even dvd's and cd's but still no joy

I went into my computer and its not even showing theres a disc in there, then it wont eject the disc, does anyone have any ideas how to solve this, discs are set to run automatically....

This is the 2nd reconditioned laptop from currys as the first 1 they sent had no charger or vista registration key so it had to go back.

any help or ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

Have you tried looking in the device manager to see if there is a possible problem with a driver, or even if the device is listed? There will be a warning triangle if there is a problem, if it isnt listed you could try the search for new hardware wizard to see if it picks it up? Failing that it may need to go back to where you bought it from....again
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!

Sounds like a duff one (probably why it was reconditioned. Returned with a duff CD drive, they didn't even look at it and sold it again).

Right click on the D drive icon and select eject. If it ejects but wont read any disks (CD or DVD) send it back.

ok ive been really dim, in device manager all its showing me is my hard drive, its not even got my disc drive in there, so that will explain why its not playing any discs... i just went on my laptop and checked and mine shows hard drive and disc drive, soim guessing its another phone call to currys.

thanks for ya help tho :)

It it a legit cd or a copy? Some drives wont read them properly and get stuck in a constant searching mode and wont reject until its read the cd, but of course it cannot, so seems to be jammed.

Ive tried both legit and copys and it wont load either, rang currys and there solution is to send me out some recovery discs... all well and good but it wont load discs..lol so ive had a moan at them (again) and there collecting it on wed, and we should have our 3rd laptop in 7 to 10 days ( which knowing currys will be 3 weeks like last time)
