Audacity lets you increase the speed of your recordings. It's free to download if you haven't got a copy.

I have tried increasing speed on windows media but it does not improve sound i cannt make out the other persons voice its muffled. I cant understand how this has gone wrong as the others have worked well. could it be that I had the microphone to close.

Windows Media Player is rubbish compared to a proper sound application. Have you tried using Audacity? here

Definitely nothing to do with the microphone being too close!

Yes windows sound recorder and a labtec 333 which worked well last time
Is there anything i can do to pick up what the other person is saying as the information was important advice. I have speeded it up on windows media player and can make out what i am saying but my voice is so deep I sounds like when they discuise voices on tv. If i could only enhance other voice a bit. it is very muffled. I recorded this conversation from my phone on speaker phone could this have caused the problem.
