Car Hire without a Credit Card

I live overseas but am returning to the UK soon and I need to hire a Car from Gatwick Airport for 5 days, I have looked at all the car hire websites but they all say I need a credit card on picking up the car and I only have Visa or Switch Debit cards.
Any ideas?

Phone and see if you can leave the deposit with them up front (via your debit card) - though it may be quite high.

Then they may be able to refund it to you when you return the car.

You will just need enough money in your account they will put in a claim/reserve for hire plus possible damage and at the end of hire will finalise the bill. So if you have enough money in your account it shouldn't be aproblem.

I went for years (until 2008) without a CC and hired all over Europe without problem.

If you are skint it might be an issue.
