I have upto 80 running with two users logged on.
I know what they all are, and it isn't a problem. I don't need or want to 'trim them down'.
Like weegie.geek said, as long as it is not affecting performance or a virus/spyware etc, it's NOT a problem, to say it is without any knowledge of an individual computer is bordering on scaremongering.0 -

You say your laptop's slow, but then you mention your modem/router in the same breath... Internet speed and PC performance are pretty much unrelated.
What's actually being slow? Is it opening programs and stuff, or is it internet downloads/web pages loading that's being slow?
If it's web pages and stuff, that doesn't mean there's anything on the laptop slowing you down, necessarily. That usually points to your net connection. Browsing and downloads will be slow is something's hammering your upload, like a torrent client or something.
Any pc made in the last 5 years will be able to handle even the most flash heavy pages with little effort, so if it's only IE/Firefox/Opera/whatever that's slow, it's almost definitely your net connection that's slow.
Right click your task bar and choose task manager. Click to the Performance tab. When your PC's being slow, is the CPU usage particularly high?
Head over to ThinkBroadband and do a speedtest if your net's slow. Post your results back here. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
