Faulty PS2 - won't read any discs

My sons' PS2 has stopped reading any of their discs. They say their granpa tripped over the flex and it fell on the floor (not from a great height). Is it worth trying to get it fixed or are any repairs not really cost-effective?

I found a guide here that might help: http://uk.faqs.ign.com/articles/390/390535p1.html0

You can pick up a PS2 with a 1 year warranty for about £50, second hand. I don't think sending it for repair will be a lot cheaper and include a warranty, but it's worth looking into. Personally, i'd start looking at the PS3. If you update it, you should be able to play PS2 games on it, if he's very attached to them.0

The current UK PS3 can't play any PS2 games at all."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

As has already been mentioned by Superscaper, the current PS3 no longer plays PS2 games. The PS3s that did were the 60gb hard drive versions (the original release. The current ones have a 40gb hard drive) which have now been discontinued.I wouldn't buy a PS3 just to play the ps2 games! Wait till games come down in price a little
As to getting another PS2, I'd advise trying ebay.

I got mine in Gamestation (the laser was about gone in our old one, was advised it would be cheaper to buy another one), for £54.99, one year warranty and 2 games under £14.99 included.
The problem buying from ebay is the postage, unless you're lucky enough to find someone local who will allow you to collect."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."
