Memory foam mattress smell??

Has anyone else noticed any kind of smell with a memory foam mattress.
We have a pocket sprung mattress topped with a layer of visco-elastic memory foam , fairly new and very comfortable.
When it was delivered (February) I suggested we put it outside during the daytime for a couple of days to air before using it but OH couldn't be bothered and it was used that night.
From the start there was a "smell" which I put down to just being a new mattress and possibly the foam.
This smell isn't as strong as when it was delivered but there is still definitely a smell. When the bedroom window is open and the room aired the smell is not noticeable (can't sleep with window open as we're on a main road) but the smell builds up again when the window is shut. It smells in the daytime so it's not caused by body heat/sleeping in the room
It's not the bed linen, not a sweaty or body smell, it just seems to be from the mattress and makes the room a bit "stale" smelling when the window is closed.

Thanks Tim. I've read through that thread now and I don't think our smell is as bad as that one although it only clears if the window and door are left open, but as soon as window is shut and door pulled to it's back.
I think I may suggest to OH that we contact the shop we purchased from or get in touch with Rest Assured as it's now over 3 months old and I would have thought any "new mattress" smell would have gone by now. I don't think our new carpet smell lasted that long!
I'm thinking the retailer is the first step, do you agree, or should I enquire of Rest Assured if this problem has occurred before?0 -

Yes there is a funny smell.. LIke u say more noticeable with windows shut
I am having back problems with mine...so maybe its not for everyone!!10 -
My daughter complained of this too, different manufacturer though. It may be just the smell of the stuff it,s made from, I havent heard her complain recently, maybe she just got used to it.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

In view of Rest Assured's comments on the website (albeit they refer to claims), would it be best to go to the retailer first (who is actually a very good company from whom we have had good service), I'm unsure now!0 -

It appears you may be right in this case. I suppose you may then get a chance to exchange it for a better make than Rest Assured.0 -

Go on then, give us a clue :rotfl:
The comfort factor of the Rest Assured mattress is excellent for our needs, no problems with that, and it wasn't cheap although we did get the best deal from that particular retailer. We've always had Dunlopillo before with no problems either but decided on a change.
You obviously have a lot more knowledge than us so (a) what's wrong with Rest Assured and (b) do you have any recommendations.
