That's a shame because if you'd had XP on both it's really easy to set up file sharing etc with the XP network wizard. I'm sure you can still do it with your set-up but I'm afraid you'll have to wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along as I've not used Win98 for a couple of years, and also never set up a network using it, so can't remember off top of my head where you'd even begin!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Easy stuff.
Setup file sharing on 98 - http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/FileSharing/Windows/win98me.html#configure
Setup file sharing on XP - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040
Once you have sone this all you need to do is slick on Start, then Run and type \\nameofcomputer\ and press enter. This will then show all folders and drives on the machine you have setup. (replace nameofcomputer with your computer name, can be found by looking up the network name).
To find ip address in 98, click start then run and type winipcfg and press enter.
In XP do the same but type cmd and press enter, a dos screen will open and then type ipconfig and press enter.0
