Kitchen lighting

We have energy saving lightbulbs everywhere else in our flat, but in our kitchen we have one of those florescent tube lights, does anyone know if you can get energy saving tube lights to replace it?

Energy saving lamps are fluorescent tubes. The only way to improve the efficiency is to change the fitting for a high frequency type if it is a switch start.

If it only wants changing for Moneysaving/Green reasons, then you'll find it wouldn't be of real value. As mentioned flourescent is reasonably efficient, once it's on & running.

It's energy boost, on strting is where the power is used mostly, if I'm correctly informed.

Also, so many energy saving lamps aren't to clever in a workspace, like the kitchen.

Oh , ok, thanks, i dont know why but i was always under the impression that they used alot of electric? Theres nothing wrong with the bulb, so yes it was only to cut down etc.

I would leave it as it is, your only going to notice savings if you have them installed in buildings where there are many of the same fittings.

Your not going to save much by installing a new modern fitting, tubes are efficient anyway.

Why? There are various types of florescent tubes available that will fit the original fitting.

The tubes are matched to the ballast so you will find that the tube which fits the fitting will be the same power rating regardless of type.

With regard to the energy boost on starting this is about three times the running current and lasts for about a second or less so if you leave the room for more than three seconds it is better to turn it off.

Here is an example of a High Efficiency T5 tube here
As much light as a T8 lamp but up to 20% lower wattage
