Colour run remover (think the one I've used is called Dr Beckman's Colour Run Remover - seen it in both Sainsburys and Tesco) and a colour catcher sheet? Might need to wash it a few times to get the dye out.Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

Try giving it a soak in warm, soapy water overnight, then using your knuckles give it a good wash/rub; wring it out and give another warm cycle in the machine. May just fade it - the black colour can't be all that stable to have run in the first place. What do the wash-care instructions say?
Is it one of the jackets with the Hi-Vis strips on top of the fabric of the jacket? Or is it just the colour of the jacket that's Hi-Vis? I find that eventually most colours that have run, usually fade with wearing/washing.
And if push comes to shove, I'd suggest one of these:

When this happens I cool wash the stained item with lots of soda crystals and some powder. Don't let it dry out, stick it back in soon as possible. So far it has always worked.0

Can't help with getting the stain out, I'm afraid, but can offer you some advice..if your husband's employed, he should be able to get another one off his employer. They aren't allowed to charge him for it as it's classed as Personal Protection Equipment and as such necessary for his safety. Hi viz PPE usually has a label on it saying that it should not be washed more than 20 times (or 25, I can never remember!). Perhaps he could suggest to his employer that it's time for a new one as his old one has lost it's visibility due to too much washing?;);)

Correct as informed..
It is damaged beyond repair.. even if you did get the colour run out it would have completely destroyed any 'hi-vis' it had in it.. he will have to get a new one.
My hubby goes through about 5 a year due to washing ... he has 3 on the go at once usually.. one dropping dust in his office.. one dropping dust at home and the other dropping dust wherever he is.. he would choke to death if he wore one for more than 2 days running.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
