Save your money! anything that breaks in 12 months is covered by warranty, anything after 12 months will be fairly cheap to replace, extended warranties are a con!
Best bet is to befriend someone who 'knows' about PCs, though I'm not volunteering as my logmein list is getting a bit big ;)

What exactly are you looking for? If any fault develops you'll already be covered for quite a long time (3/4 years probably, under the Sale of Goods Act).

    BOUGHT :p not bRought!

Like the others have said, pc's are usually so well made these days if anything was going to go wrong it would most likely do so in the first 12 months in which case you'd be covered anyway.

Warranty or not, you're still covered by your statutory consumer rights. ;) A warranty is merely something the manufacturer (usually) offers as a bonus to your existing rights.

Although a 12 month warranty tends to be standard I don't think it's an actual requirement.

My advice would be not to buy one. It will cost you a fortune. Do you not have any contact who could repair your pc if it became faulty.

Sadly we do not know anyone very computer minded so it would need 'a man that can' should any problems arise

Precisely. Do a web search for a local skills-swap network near you. I added myself to one yesterday, and found that most of the people will skills to swap had computer admin skills.

Or, rather than spending the money on 'cover', put it into a savings account, and only call on it if you need to pay for some 'professional' help. With things as *unimportant* as possessions, I do this. With things as valuable as mortgage life/payment protection, I don't do this.

Doesn't matter, your retailer is responsible for fixing faults.
