Flies in home

Hi All,

We seem to keep getting large black flies in the kitchen at the louge. They tend to be big and bummbling and there always seem to be about 2 or 3 in the house no matter how many times i get them out of the window.

Does anyone have any ideas how they are getting in and how i can get rid of them?

thanks

Could they be hatching from maggots? Has something died behind one of your kitchen units and gone a bit pongy?

I had that last year and this year I keep getting the odd fly - horrid things. I have an electric tennis racket - I got it in a shop called Smach & Grab and it was cheap. All you need to do is shove a couple of batteries inside the handle. Position the racket over the fly and press the button...zapp, buzz crackle - one dead fly.

Another thing to do is to hang one of those yellow sticky strips that you get for use in the greenhouse - the blighters are attracted to the yellow and then get stuck and starve to death.

Good luck with getting rid of them.

We have the same problem.........not a lot just the odd one or two come in and aim straight for the window wanting to go out ! If its gets that bad we get the yellow strips - hate to see them but at least they work........and I've got a plastic fly swat.........usually guarantees I can't miss 'em !

I had something similar when a mouse/rat had died under the floor boards. I used to get a few everyday and then one day hundreds of them, some dead, horrible. They were hatching and coming from the florrboards. Best way to get rid of them is find the source of them, remove it and then fumegate the room with fly killer. Worked a treat.

We get more of the large flies coming into the house when we have the hot weather because they seem to smell when I have had cat food down for my two cats...

I find the best and cheapest way to get rid of them is to either open a window and let them out that way or I just open the doors and show them the way out.Much cheaper and healthier than spending money on chemical sprays...

You can't beat those electric fly killers that you see in take-away shops etc. Several places sell them, including some home catalogues, BXQ etc.

We used to live next to a chicken farm, and believe me, we had more flies than you can shake a stick at. Everytime we opened a window or door, it was like they were queing up to get in.

thanks for all your help and advice guys. looked in the kitchen and did indeed find a dead mouse that was decomposing but didnt have any maggots or anything like that in it. quite hard to clean down there but have managed to do my best - hopefully that will solve the problem!

    thanks again!
