Cooking Heart????

I picked up 2 stuffed lambs hearts in Mr T reduced to 20p. Thought they'd be worth a try, especially at that price! I have never cooked (or eaten) these before so need some pointers on cooking times.
Thanks in advance0 -
Stewed (gently), I'd say 90 mins to a couple of hours. The good thing about them is that although they do need a long cook (slow cookers are great for this), they are not too easily over-cooked. I think you can roast them but I've never done that myself.
It's been a while since I've cooked them so I think that I may have to go and find myself some, as they are yummy!0 -
I generally stuff them with sage & onion and roast, they are delicious and take about 45 mins or so. A much under-rated meal and so cheap.A smile costs little but creates much0

Hi MummyEm,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added to the existing thread on cooking heart where you'll find lots more advice.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I'll go for roasting and see how we go.0

You could always mince it and mix it with a bit of other meat too.0

I'm planning on doing a braised heart type dish for dinner tonight. I saw this recipe that I was going to use,but I'd rather start it off in the pan, and then pop in the oven - partly because my casserole is oval, and I have an electric hob, so not all of the pan is on the stove, and partly because I'd like to use the oven for a bread and butter pudding at the same time.
Would it be possible to follow the recipe, but instead of simmering on the hob for an hour to put into the oven at that point? I was thinking of sticking to the 1hour timings, and about 180C (which is just right fot he b&b pud). What do you think?0 -
This should be fine in the oven like you say. Maybe baste it a couple of times if you can. Not had heart for a long time but used to do mine in a casserole dish in the oven with lots of veg and stock, then thicken to make a lovely gravy.MARCH £62.38/2500

I used to stuff the hearts then brown them on the hob, remove from pan and make the gravy, then combine the hearts and gravy and then slow cook in the oven.0
