I didnt only download the application at 5.04, I had only forgot to mention this in my OP. I had also already tried the tutorial you posted but felt this didnt explain things very well.

I may not have spent hours researching this but was looking for something that I did not have to spend so long on. I dont mind putting in time but feel that GIMP is not as easy to understand as some of the other applications.

I don't know which tutorial you tried to follow because you did not post a link but this one here explains in very simple steps exactly how to achieve what you want to do. If you can't follow these simple steps, it must be beyond your capabilities, so try using M$ Paint.
