What is Pay rate for Tesco's per hour?

Worth remembering that many on low pay can claim benefits. So the reality is that we the tax payer can end up subsidising the employees wages in many businesses!
To me this is wrong, because just how much does that subsidy actually cost by the time the tax to pay is collected, the application for benefit processed etc. Too many are are earning less than what we consider necessary to live on and that in turn is costing us a fortune to step in and rectify.
Indeed.
This is something I find rather strange about the national minimum wage and calls for a 'living wage' and other such nonsense.
If you believe that NMW is too low, then petitioning your MP to raise it will probably do more than hoping private companies will do so out of benevolence.
Or you could always tip your checkout operator?Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

We also need to get over the idea that economic slumps are intrinsically bad for society - they arn't. Indeed one of the reasons people think they are is because in contemporary society there has been a total breakdown of non-material values which would otherwise ease people through tough economic times. What we're going through today is nothing like what people went through in Ireland in the 30s or even the 50s; but listening to some on here and elsewhere you would assume it's the end of the world.
I agree especially about the non material values. (We even have Boxing Day sales!) What many forget is that in this recession (all recessions) the vast majority of people are employed and will remain in employment. Many are indeed better of. Herd instinct makes the bubbles and dips worse.
We also need to simplify and ditch a lot of well meaning legislation that add unnecessary costs.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -
