we apologise for the inconvineance screen...

window starts normally option just repeats the same rebooting sequence
safe mode does the same
safe with networking does the same
safe with command prompt
start from last know good config just does nothing apart from give me a black screen,

if I start in safe with Command prompt , it runs for two second as its loading and the last line before it reboots is:-
muli(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys

Why don't you take the drive out of the pc and connect it to new
visa PC as a slave drive, and then just browse to the files you want
    in vista.

just remember to set the jumper on the drive to slave, and when vista boots
it will be in your "computer" folder.

and if you don't fancy taking the lid off your new PC you could put the
drive in a external USB caddy, and then you can use it to back up files
    in the future

    Agree with the above.

Had you just installed XP SP3 on the machine by any chance.

Be careful that its not a virus and by putting it in a new machine you just end up transfering the virus, do this on another old or unimportant pc first

Just a thought as some virus's wil cause continual rebooting of systems

I do believe XP had just updated some settings although I didnt notice if it was sp3 though.

I would love to be able to take out the drive and add it as a slave but thats at the moment beyond me doing it ,

roughly how much should expect to pay to have it done ?

If there is a really simple how to guide Id do it ,I managed it once ages ago with an old w98 drive

if it helps my new machine is a Packard bell imedia 2414 and only 2 days old.

    Thanks for the prompt replies

I would get the caddy I posted then you dont need to touch
your new pc at all, just plug the drive into a usb port

I would expect a local pc technician (see local paper) to charge
around £25-£50 pounds to come and do it for your.
