Having read a few of the threads on here I thought I would check my Powergen bill online, it currently says
We're unable to accept meter reads for the following product(s) at this stage:
Electricity
Gas
We were on token meters using approx £5 a week for each the gas & electric (£10 a week total), wanted to change for years but told by BG that it would cost about £500 to change. After a few too many problems with BG we changed to Powergen who changed us to a credit meter without too much hassle & no charge. Wanted to pay via DD so we are being charged a combined payment of £60 a month (£30 for electric & £30 for gas).
I know the token meters cost more to run so can't get my head around this. We were charged £45 for a DD for just the Electric in April but Powergen didn't turn up so they refunded the payment & put a £50 credit on account (9th May) then made another appointment but didn't show so another £50 credit (31st May). Jul 1st took the combined payment of £60, same on Aug 1st. August 11th an invoice for just the electric came for £99.68 which I phoned up & quiered (I had given them accurate readings but seems they didn't put these on the account) No idea what this £20 is on August 12th
August 13th they sent me a new invoice again just stating Electric but when I queried this I was told Gas is on the same account so this should cover both. Upto this point I had paid £120 over 2 months but now my account was £127.12 in CREDIT! Got another bill August 28th for Electric for £65.66 making an account balance of £61.46. Then another DD payment taken on September 1st making account balance of £121.46 but from what I can see even though it does say Electric & Gas on the account I can't find anywhere on bill for the Gas. I have been charged £65.66 for 9 weeks electric since 27th June when these were put in, that's £7.29 a week which is more than the token meter was

No its not right.
First off find out what tarif you are on, then read your meters and then work out your own bill.
Then email powergen and point out the lack of gas bill and any difference in the readings on the bill and the actual readings.
When they send you the actual reply to the email (not the automated responce) there is a free phone number on the email for further queries. This is the email centre phone number for the team handling your account and NOT customer services. If the email has not sorted out the problem then phone up and ask for the person named in the email, someone from that team will deal with it. These are the people who can actually sort out problems (unlike customer services who are there to fob you off).
I won't post the number because you need to have sent an email and had a responce before they will sort anything out and it won't help you right now.

I don't want to worry you, but I left Powergen in January. The electricity final bill was sent within a few days & I paid that, but it took until May to get a final bill for the gas.
They owed me over £60 & that took another month to get them to send a cheque, (they blamed switching to new computer systems).
Last week I received a "Final Gas Bill" from Powergen for £22. I rang to ask what was going on & they said that a new computer system had been introduced but I would have to pay this bill. I told them that there was no way I would pay & I would be contacting OFGEM immediately I finished the phone call.
After a couple of minutes on hold I was told "forget this bill, we will cancel the charges". I asked for written confirmation of this decision only to be told "we cannot do that, the system won't allow it".Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T0 -
Powergen are completely useless when it comes to sorting out anything and I've lost count of the hours I've spent on the phone to them since February this year, thankfully on an 0800 number or I'd be damn well charging them!!!
I've only just made my first DD payment to them this month because it's taken so long to sort out, and I can guarantee after the next month's bills it will all start over again because it seems I'm being charged for my neighbour's electric and vice versa, only he's on a pre-paid meter!!!
