Road trip USA - Hotel prices

Hello again, all. Murphy, we are going to Vancouver BC. So I guess that's a long bus ride rather than scenic train journey in that case (shame).
Anyone have any ideas about a room in Seattle on arrival. We are only there for the night, so don't want anything too expensive, cos we plan to head off to Canada the next morning. Been looking on the inter-web, but prices seem to be really high, especially if anywhere near 'downtown' area - over £60 per night. We only really need somewhere to lay our heads down, as we'll be up and off quite early the next day.
Thanks.
Possibly look into Priceline or Hotwire.0 -
Hi again to all on this thread.
Well, tomorrow is the big day. We're off to USA! Still feeling a little bit anxious, but have done loads of research and got some great tips off this wonderful site (and this thread) so at least I feel like I'm slightly more informed as to what to expect.
We are not spending the first night in Seattle now. Catching a Cantrail bus (something to do with Amtrak) from Downtown Seattle, straight to Vancouver (3 hrs 20 min journey) for $52.50 for the both of us. This seemed to be the cheapest way of travelling between Seattle and Vancouver. We'll be picked up in Vancouver (at 12.35 am on Monday!).
Plan to travel down to San Francisco, probably by Coast Starlight Amtrak, on 2nd September (but the online fare for this leg has increased by $60 since I last looked at a week ago - should have booked it then). Still haven't booked anything in San Fran, but think we might stay at HI (youth hostel) at Fort Mason for a couple of nights, before we pick up hire car and head off.
Anyways, I'll have loads more information when I return so will be sure to return the favour to all you good people, and post any info required on room rates, petrol costs etc.
Oh by the way, got my $ through Travel Money Services (in Cornwall) from info on this site. They were very good. Currency turned up on Wednesday, just as they'd said it would. I also managed to get a good rate for booking in advance (1.9576$ to the £). So I would recommend them.
Have a great bank holiday weekend everyone.
