Early discharge - at six months in Mar this yr- made a very big difference too me, since without it I'd now almost certainly be paying an IPA which at the time of my discharge I was not liable for. This fact is making a big difference towards my getting back on my financial feet.

That said where all entitled to our opinions ADC, however its not surprising that those of us who have taken the 'bankruptcy journey' perhaps have a differing view about such things than those who haven't.

I really hope you don't stop posting Addicted2Chocolate, when I was first looking at bankruptcy I found your posts really helpful- they were "from the other side", so to speak, but I found your posts put my mind at rest on a lot of issues and I think it would be a real loss to the bankruptcy site if you stopped posting on here.

On the ED issue, I think it would be nice to get it, but I dont really mind doing the 12 months- its what I expected so anything else is a bonus.

I did not realise that only the bankrupts are allowed to express an opinion on this board. Sorry for expressing an opinion, I will keep it to myself in future and keep away from this board.
I hope you all have happy endings to your bankruptcy journeys.
Surely this forum is about expressing opinion ? It's good to hear your opinion, in the same way that it's good to hear the other side as well.

There's no need to stop posting just because someone had a different opinion than yours. You expressed an interesting & relevant opinion which was much appreciated - but then why is is not OK for someone to express an opinion that comes from a different angle. I wouldn't like to think that you stopped posting - I don't think anyone on this thread meant you to take offence, they were just trying to put a different POV

  • I may well have misinterpreted some of the replies on this thread. I feel that sometimes people assume I am not a nice person because I work for an OR's office, and the only comments I see on this board about the OR are negative. Sometimes people say the interview was ok but thats rare. Its disgusting if people are being forced into IPAs they cannot really afford, in my experince that does not happen. I spend more time suggesting expenses that the customers has not included and can honestly say i have never co-erced a bankrupt into agreeing to an IPA. For when that does happen there is the 14 days cooling off period.
I try and treat all my customers with dignity and respect. Of course there will be differences of opinion, long may that continue! I know that I could be bankrupt one day, it can happen to anyone and everyone. I am just grateful we live in a country with bankruptcy legislation. The legislation is far from perfect but better than nothing.
With respect to the online register, I was of the understanding that entries are removed from the EIIR 3 months after the discharge date.

If the information is elsewhere more than 3 months after discharge that is wrong and should be reported to someone.
Bankruptcy is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, there should not be the stigma and fear associated with it. I had not realised how important ED is from an emotional point of view. I will try to bear that in mind. I was thinking based on a staff & time resources consideration. The OR's offices may not have enough staff to admister the ED with incoming cases rising so rapidly.
There are lots of great advisors on here, fermi, Debt Doctor, Richard S etc, so I think I should spend some time sorting my own finances and with my family. Our income is being squeezed too!
Watch out for a BBC tv programme documentary about bankruptcy, currently being filmed.
    All the best.

    Hey Addicted2Chocolate,

I detect more than just a little frustration in your recent posts. I think (for what it's worth) that your contributions are priceless, and this Forum would be a worse place if you no longer posted. None of us get any remuneration from posting on here; for me it's the satisfaction of being able to help people who are facing what is a most stressful event; I can only assume your motivations are similar.

I too work in the Public Sector and can appreciate what a thankless task it sometimes appears to be. I do ctiticise the I.S and bankruptcy as a system, but not usually the individuals; there is good and bad in all organisations.

You're not trying to give up chocolate are you.:D:D

  • A2C - do you know when the documentary will be shown?
BSC 160 that's me! :j 2 years to go before I qualify... and am let loose on the public
  • I contacted you via private message on the advice of a forum regular a few weeks ago. You responded promptly and provided the advice I asked for with patience and courtesy and this ensured that the person I was asking on behalf of could rest easy and be reassured on a couple of issues. I thank you for that and I really hope you stay around as having a perspective from the OR side and the legal/technical knowledge you have of the bankruptcy process is a valuable asset to the forum.:T

I for one think you are not a bad person, your doing your job paying your taxes e.t.c and you a normal human being, its maddness to blame the OR they are only doing their job. Just like a judge, police officer ,TRAFFIC WARDEN:rotfl: Ok not a traffic warden:D .But the main point is. Have respect for others.

I hope you stay around too, I found bankruptcy pretty terrifying and your posts did actually help me a lot when I read them.
