Sky tv link (mouse)

Hi, I hope you can help me!

I've had this little mouse - the Sky tv link that you plug into your tv - in my bedroom for months now, just so that I don't have to go downstairs to change my sky channels! I know, I'm lazy.

Anyway, it's been working OK for ages, but just recently it intermittently stopped working - i.e. I had to go downstairs to change the channels. So what I did was I turned my sky box off left it for a moment and then switched it back on and the mouse started working again!

Guess what! This time it didn't. I just cannot get it to work. I've fiddled about with it in the back - and the red light on the tv link is still on - but it has made no difference.

Now the TV in my bedroom runs off the aeriel from the lounge and the tv link is attached to the aeriel - hopefully you can understand what I'm saying.

Why is this mouse not working? Does anyone have any ideas?

I bought for my lounge a DVD/Video recorder and set that up today and that's fine. Could that have had anything to do with it?

Please help! I'm sick at the moment with pneumonia and pleurisy and it's hard work going up and down the stairs - I live by myself.

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks

The cable that goes to your bedroom needs to be plugged in the back of the sky box that is marked 'RF2'.

Also, Sky have been doing a lot of updates which sometimes makes the boxes forget some settings. The 'Mouse' requires some power from the Sky box and only 'RF2' can provide it. To double check the power is on, press the following on the remote (not in the bedroom though, it needs to be at the box directly!)

    SERVICES (Sevice menu appears)

    4 (system setup)

    0 (nothing happens)

    1 (nothing happens)

    SELECT (Installers menu appears)

    4 (Rf Outlets)

Move down to RF Power and it should be set to ON. If not, press right which will move to ON. Press down and select SAVE SETTINGS.

If it is set to on, try setting to OFF; save the settings then set back to ON.

If this doesn't work, try plugging the 'MOUSE' directly into the back of the SKY box. If the red light doesn't come on theres a good chance it's died. If it does, it may signify a damaged cable

Hope you feel better soon... :-)

    Hi

Thank you for replying and for your very clear instructions. I've done EVERYTHING you said and unfortunately it's no different. The red light came on when I put the MOUSE in the digibox.

So what do you think could be the problem?

Which cable could be damaged? I'm so sorry to drive you mad! I hope you don't mind! :A

Also, thank you for your good wishes! I must admit it's not a pleasant thing to have!

Didn't see that the red light still comes on in your bedroom, DOH! Forget about a damaged cable!

Only other thing I can think of at moment is, have you got a separate remote control in your bedroom??

If so, you may have set it accidently to work a SKY+ box rather than a SKY box.

To change a remote control complete the following...

    Press TV

Press Blue+select together (the red light at top flashes twice)

    0

    Select

    Sky

This now sets the remote to control a standard digibox. If it is a SKY+ box and not a SKY, substitute the 0 above with a 2.

Try going to your digital box settings and see if its enabled, you can ring sky how to do this. Id also suggest going out and getting a new cable, get a short one if poss to test its not the cable, then if you find the cable works fine, then maybe its the tv eye.
    Kind Regards

  • Just wondered if your cable to the bedroom TV goes through a mains powered aerial signal booster unit first. If it does, you will not get a signal from the "mouse" unless the booster has a digital by-pass. You can buy a by-pass unit to fit an ordinary aerial booster if necessary, which solves that problem.

  • might sound daft, but have your batteries for your second remote in the bedroom gone?????
