Would you buy sky extended warranty?

Would you buy sky extended warranty?

We have 3 sky boxes:o :o:o:o

They have offered us a warranty on all of them for £12 per month.

We have a HD sky+ box, a sky+ box & a regular sky box.

Anyone bother with the warranty?

I said to my husband that if it broke down & we rang up to cancle they would prob fix for free, we pay silly money to sky. full package, extra for HD, extra for multiroom x 2:rolleyes:

    In a word - no! :D

I had a 4yr old box replaced by Sky after I asked them to close my account as it was no use to me with a broken box ;)

Yeah I've heard people say that.

I wonder if they would do that with a HD box though, they are expensive:mad:

I don't see why not when you add up what they will lose if you cancel your subscription

No. Although there are some known issues with the HD boxes, on the whole these things are pretty reliable and if it does break down a few months down the line, tell sky to poke it or buy a refurbished one off ebay.

firstly I think this is aload of rubbish...
I have had sky for 8 years digibox 8 years old still going strong sky + box 6 years old still going strong now I paid for 1 year warranty after the first year it was £5.99 a month then which cost me £71.88 for nothing...so I cancelled it...my friend has had a HD box for over 2 years now and never had a problem if problems do arrive its usually within the first year which is under warranty...but if problems do arrive after the first year you say you want to cancel and they either swap it for free or send someone out for half price...cos they don't want to lose you see...you have the upper hand in this situation not them...:D

    Plans for 2009

I have it as it pays for itself when you have someone out twice, (60+ each time someone comes out) most of the time I need someone to come out every few months because something keeps going wrong with the dish so I find it's useful to me but might not be so with other people, it will matter more on where you live and that lot.

The bog standard box, year old, never a problem.
The sky+ box, we had quite a few call outs in the early days (don't know if it was teething problems with them or what).
The HD box has been changed once under warranty.

If it was just the old box, they are great, but the + & the HDs are not so reliable.

my brother's digibox broke after they'd had it for years when his wife rang sky they said it would be a £60 call out...
I said it would only cost them £99 for sky+ but cheaper if they haggled the price...
I rang them back via mobile they rang sky and I talked to the guy at sky...
result was they got sky + installed within the week for £64
    haggle thats what martin says...
    and it works
as for your problems it's just pop luck really if your having loads of problems with the box now within warranty I would ring them using say no to 0870 number and demand a NEW box as it sounds like yours is a recon...but personally I have had no problems...:D

  • Personally extented warranties are never worth the paper there written on, youd be better off putting the money you would pay into a seperate account and then using this money when something goes wrong! and if it doesnt then you have a nice little bonus! id rather it was in my pocket than theres!
