I am a member of the Manchester Branch of the British Computer Society. This evening I went to a VERY interesting lecture about the laws against spam, trojans, virus etc.
During the course of the lecture AOL came up. AOL are actually breaking the law. When you load their software, it interfears with the operating system and is impossible to remove.
In America AOL is being sued under case law. The Technical Lawer said try walking into a police station here and stating that AOL had interfered with your system. They do not have the manpower and are not willing to follow the matter up.
Fortunately for me I have never been tempted by the free AOL movie samples! :j

Thats because AOL has a seperate Dial Up on Demand Adapter which is
like a virus as it can play mary hell with your PC.
i.e. Install AOL and some PC speakers stop working, Uninstall it
and manually uninstall the Dial Up on Deman Adapter, Hey Presto they work again.0
