Forgot to switch shower electric off!

I've just discovered that the electric supply to my shower has been left on for over 24 hrs :o

Will this cause it any damage?

Not if you mean the pull cord. We leave ours on all the time. It makes no difference.

Phew! Yes, I did mean the pull cord. I had visions of burning out the electric motor or something equally terrible :o

Showers don't have an electric motor in them, so I doubt that would happen. ;)

Everything only clicks into life when you turn the water on - if you have a pull switch with a light on it, you've just wasted a very little bit of a pee (and possibly raised the temperature of the bathroom by a very little bit of a degree).

Does it not cost extra to leave it on then? We only had the shower put in a few weeks ago so still trying to get used to it ;)

Ahhh, cross-posted then, thanks for that!

  • Hi,

it's just like stand by light on tellie, dvd etc, uses very little.

It actually uses far less than them, it is only a neon light, about a penny a year I would guess.;)

The wear and tear on the switch would cost a lot more than the cost of the neon light.

Electricity is only consumed when something is happening. Just because something is plugged in (but switched off) does not mean it is using any electricity. The switch for the shower is there for safety, in the case that something goes wrong and the power needs to be disabled quickly.
  • Hi,

I'll agree, my one works with a string pull, and constant daily use means that

it will eventually break, so just leave it on.
