Learning about investments

I know enough about isa's and paying off your mortgage etc. but I don't know much about investing in the stock or commodities market. I was hoping if somebody could point me in the right direction to where I can learn about different types of funds, how to make money from the rising price of metals oil etc.
Cheers

I also am considering investing into managed portfolio. To do this you need to be able to invest for at least 5 years but better if it is 10 years.
You need the long term because of fluctuations in the market and to allow your investment to perform.
I would also like advice from people who have already invested.0
