Credit Check for renting - help

Hi there,
I hope someone can give me a little advice as I'm running out of idea's and energy!
Myself and my OH are selling up and going back to renting, the problem is my credit rating is horrendous, and I know I will fail the credit check.
I suggested to my OH he only needs to take the credit check, but the Estate Agents have said anyone living in the house has to take it. Is this true? I've read another link saying as long as one person is earning enough to pay the rent it should be fine for one credit check to be done. Are the Estate Agents pulling a fast one? Can they do this? I'm really panicing, as they charge a fortune for these checks and we are so skint at the moment it's scary!!! If we both go for the credit check and it fails what do we do then?
Thank you,
Lea

EAs are pulling a fast one.
It's a trick they like to try.... credit check everyone within 5 miles and charge them all through the nose. The EAs are desperate for cash as sales are non existent.
Sadly if you want the house in question you have no choice but to pay them.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
If you fail the credit check, you could perhaps offer to pay 6 months rent upfront instead, to prove you can afford it.
Perhaps go find a property with another estate agent, and this time just get your OH to go and look.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thankyou,
I couldn't believe how much they charge, it's disgusting, especially if you know your going to fail the damn thing anyway! I'll definately keep looking with other Estate Agents, and send OH on his own to do the viewing. Hopefully we will be in a position to offer extra rent up front if the worst happens, as we'll have a little bit left from the sale of the house (I hope, but bills and debts keep coming out of the woodwork - and then the tax man raises his lovely head.....urgh).0 -
Please pm me, I may be able to help0

Funny you should ask about this because Me & my Hubby were looking at moving from our privatly rented house. We saw a house that we liked I called up the letting agent & the application fee is £141.00!!
We both declared ourselves bankrupt OH 3 years ago & myself 2.5 years ago...I don't see how we can possibly pass the credit checking!?
I did mention this to the letting agent & they were trying to tell me that if you make them aware of it before hand it shouldn't be a problem.I doubt that for one minute! I'm sure it's just an easy way to take our money!
The annoying thing is I don't see any way forward. Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!
Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:0 -

Our EA makes anyone over 18 living in the property have a credit check, IMO stupid but that is the rules they have. There is no point paying for one if you will fail. Another option is to pay more rent up front. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0
