really confused by switching site figures.Help please.

I decided the most accurate way to get the best price for my utilities was to input the actual usage for the last year.So I used the online billing info for my edf account and got all the details off my bills. The problem is the site then said, your current annual usage for gas & elec is £719 and gave me the best providers for me based on my usage.the problem is though that my actual bills for the usage I input was £1,105.53 so I am wondering where the energywatch people got ythe £719 figure from and if this means I have been overcharged by EDF.

  • Alright,I know what I did wrong:rolleyes: .Why is it always human error and never computer error? :o The info on the bill for gas is in cubic metres and I have to convert it into kwh.I dont have a calculator so can anyone do this sum for me and post the answer?Or tell me where I can find one online I can use in future:o .
466(as per bills this is the cubic m used)x39.7(current calorific value) then divided by 3.6.
The answer is the kwh for my gas.

I did it on paper and get 4743.64 which I have just rounded up to 4744 for ease.is that right?
Oh dear!using the new and I think correct figures the energyhelpline site says annual utility bills are £898,still way lessthan I have actually paid to EDF.

I must have done something else wrong, please help as this is looking like I have been overcharged by hundreds.

  • I phoned EDF.A nice guy called John explained where I went wrong with the working out and gave me a new sum to do.Apparantly the bill is in cubic metres but I was supposed to convert that into cubic feet before I did the last sum.Silly me,D'oh!!!
    466 x 2.83 x 39.7 x 1.02264 divided by 3.6 gives me a new kwh figure of 14872 and I have not been overcharged at all.
    Simple really:rolleyes:
