Council Tax Over the Summer

Hey Guys

I was wondering if I would have to pay council tax over the summer? Me and my girlfriend are renting an apartment over the summer while we both work full time. My girlfriend is a full time student and will be inbetween her 2nd and 3rd year while I will be inbetween graduating from my BSc degree and starting a MSc.

I am not technically a student (I dont think!) as I am inbetween courses so will we have to pay council tax? I have been accepted onto my MSc course provinding I get the grade I need.

Any help on this would be kindly received!

Thanks

Your gf will be exempt, but you will not. Therefore you will get a 25% discount on your bill.

You will get a 25% 'single person' discount as the only liable adult in the household.

    Dmg's right.

The 25% is a discount given to anyone who is the a sole adult (for council tax purposes) in a property.

Thanks for that advice. Does council tax not relate to income in anyway? I will be earning under the personal allowance.

You may be able to get Council Tax Benefit, but the thresholds are very low. How much will you be earning each week (it is based on weekly income, not yearly)?

No, you won't be eligible for Council Tax Benefit on £300 per week. Sorry! x

Not normally, although if you're on certain benefits you sometimes qualify to have Council tax benefit which means it's paid on your behalf.
In general though, council tax bands are based on the (supposed) value of your property (owned or rented).
