I am with southern gas and electric and at the end of each year get a months direct debit rebate (£84). Is it still worth me switching to a capped price tarrif Eon for 18 months?

You need to review your annual energy bill and compare this to the cost of the capped tariff to ensure that you are getting a better deal.

However, energy prices are due to go up again and it may be worth fixing your energy prices.
