Broadband speed query

Im on NTL 1mb service. Ive noticed the web pages taking a longer time to open, so i ran a speed test.

On average results were around 500kbps.
Is that about correct?

No, that's low for a supposedly 1mb service.

I'd expect upwards of 850/900.

anyone know other websites i can try the test on again? (dont really want to have to download to do it)

One of the best speed tests out there is at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/

Look on the left at the menus. Near the bottom you will see the speed test. With results, if your broadband is working OK.You should expect speeds above 85% of your total.On a 1Mb line, anything above 850Kbps should be OK.

Dont really understand mgs etc. but we had the broadband package that costs £24.99 per month and it was really slow. Due to financial straits I asked for the service at £17.99 pm and its much faster!!! We did clear a load of junk off the pc plus I got a programme that keeps freeing up ram space, but it used to drive me mad. I took about five minutes to load up when you logged on and now it takes just over a minute.

Just got these results:

Downstream 963 Kbps (120.4 KB/sec) 1040 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 93 Kbps (11.6 KB/sec) 100 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Looks ok to me?

Ha that Intel site is pap according to that Im just above dialup 56k,
I would stick with Adslguide.....

I'm on a 2meg connection and the site that you linked to tells me my speed is 441.

It's obviously incorrect. Other tests I've done register at between 1800/1900.

lol.........that Intel test reckons my 2Mb is running at 572Kbps. This is very wrong. I'm currently running around the 1900Kbps mark.

The Intel site is pants. I'm on NTL 2 Mbps, and it was showing me as 567Kbps....:rotfl:
the ADSL site gives me as 1967 kbps.....which can't be far off, as I'm running a Winamp stream, and playing poker at the same time. Have seen mine as high as 2460 Kbps at times.
